Friday, January 15, 2016

MERCHANTS of Ayala Center Cebu were acknowledged during the first Ayala Center Cebu 2015 Sustainability Leadership Awards for Merchants(SLAM) awards ceremony held last Oct. 18 at the City Sports Club-Cebu.

Ayala Land subsidiary, Cebu Holdings Inc. (CHI), in partnership with the Philippine Business for the Environment (PBE) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Cebu Provincial Office, launched SLAM, which aims to recognize the leadership and commendable programs of merchants. These are based on three areas of sustainability: eco-efficiency, local economic contribution and employee engagement.

Through SLAM, CHI and its merchants worked on maintaining the sustainability of its businesses by realizing their impacts on the environment and its natural resources and making joint efforts to mitigate them.

The company hopes to make SLAM an inspiration to other merchants in enhancing competitiveness and applying sustainability practices in their operations, to help shape and influence their markets and achieve a much faster and sustainable growth.

The SLAM awardees are merchants of Ayala Center Cebu, grouped according to the following categories: food, non-food, services, and anchor stores.

The entries were reviewed and judged by PBE, DTI and GIZ based on water conservation, solid waste management, energy and climate protection, employee engagement, sustainable procurement and local economic contribution.

The winning merchants are: Persian Palate (restaurant category) received the environment leadership award, sustainable procurement leadership award and special recognition for solid waste management; Rustan’s (anchor store category) with the employee engagement leadership award, sustainable procurement leadership award, and special recognition for energy conservation and environmental protection.

Toys ‘R’ Us, which won the non-food/foreign brand category, received the employee engagement leadership award and special recognition for energy conservation and environmental protection. Metro Gaisano received a special recognition for energy conservation and environmental protection as well as for water management after topping the homegrown-Cebu/anchor store category.

Café Laguna, which won the restaurant category, received a special recognition for energy conservation and environmental Protection, while Lacoste Footwear (non-food/foreign brand category) received a special recognition for employee engagement.

Cebu Holdings, Inc. plans to conduct the Sustainability Leadership Awards for Merchants annually, with more merchants participating in 2016.
