Cebu Holdings joins Earth Hour

Friday, March 18, 2016

CEBU Holdings Inc. (CHI) heeds the global need for action against climate change, as its two premier estates take part in this year’s Earth Hour.

Cebu Business Park and Cebu I.T. Park will join the global hour-long switch-off in a symbolic effort to raise awareness on the alarming effects of climate change. Together, these estates have 61 buildings for retail, office and residential uses, with 20 more currently under construction. These integrated masterplanned mixed use estates are the preferred business, commercial and IT/BPO addresses outside Metro Manila.

More locators and merchants from both estates are expected to participate during this year’s annual switch-off.

“Our target is to get a majority confirmation by our locators and get a collective action from everyone to fight and stop the worsening effects of global warming,” said Kim Serate, VisMin associate director of Ayala Property Management Group.

Last year’s Earth Hour switch-off generated a total of 1,529.23 kilowatts of conserved energy from both estates—an equivalent to 838.02 kg of CO2 avoidance. This included a park-wide switch-off of lights and equipment in Ayala Center Cebu, eBloc Towers 1, 2 and 3, Avida Tower Cebu 1, and The Walk.

Aside from switching-off during the event, Cebu Business Park and Cebu I.T. Park remain vigilant in making sure that their growing operations are neutralized through efficient programs that secure a low-carbon environment and sustainable practices that help mitigate harsh impacts to our planet.

Tomorrow, March 19, Ayala Center Cebu will join the rest of the world in celebrating the Earth Hour with a mall-wide switch-off from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

From 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., shoppers can get the chance to win exciting prizes by answering trivia question related to the environment at the Quiz Wall located at Level 1 of the mall near Topshop.

At 7 p.m., there will be a ceremonial switch-off at The Terraces featuring performances by the University of Cebu, Sinulog Idol winner Daniel Ozaraga, Sonata band, the Knapsack dancers and a mini-fashion show by the Miss Cebu 2016 winners.

The Earth Hour is a worldwide movement uniting people to protect mother earth, organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature. It started as a lights-off event in Sydney in 2007, and has since engaged more than 7,000 cities and towns worldwide. (SUN.STAR CEBU)
