CHI holds education seminar for PUV and PUJ drivers

Monday, June 27, 2016

TO equip drivers on road courtesy and safety, Ayala-led Cebu Holdings Inc. (CHI), in partnership with the Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO), conducted the first of its series on public utility vehicle (PUV) and public utility jeepney (PUJ) drivers’ education program last June 9 at the Active Zone of Ayala Center Cebu.

The first batch of participants was composed of PUV drivers from GT Express, whose routes pass through Cebu Business Park.

Also in attendance were CHI’s detachment commanders and park security officers, who are licensed to enforce traffic regulations and arrest violators around CHI’s premier estates-Cebu Business Park and Cebu IT Park.

The seminar was facilitated by three key speakers from CCTO headed by traffic engineer and consultant Engr. Lynn Madrona who briefed drivers on proper road courtesy and discipline.

CCTO head of Traffic Education Section Corazon Yrog-Irog discussed traffic control devices and traffic-related ordinances as well as techniques on defensive driving.

Meanwhile, CCTO Mobile Section team leader Jounald Bautista talked about traffic violations, including differentiating citation tickets from a temporary operator’s permit.

CHI’s CSR and Sustainability Manager Vera Alejandria said that the orientation seminar intends to help improve the traffic management around the parks.

“This is one of our stakeholder engagement initiatives where we engage PUV and PUJ drivers to enhance road safety and minimize road obstruction,” she said.

Madrona said that this initiative should be significant not only for the PUV and PUJ drivers, but for everyone.

“Change needs to begin with us, and it’s so appropriate that Ayala is starting to change how their drivers are going about the parks,” she said.

This is CHI’s first orientation seminar for the year dubbed as PUV and PUJ Drivers’ Education Program on Road Safety and Traffic Related Ordinances. The company hopes to conduct more of these seminars for road users in the coming months.

“In one way or another, this will help ease traffic congestion in Ayala area in particular and hopefully including other streets in Cebu,” said Madrona. (SUN STAR CEBU)
