Wednesday, April 20, 2016

CEBU, Philippines - Over 11,000 voters in Cebu will cast their votes in malls on May 9 instead of the regular voting centers in their respective barangays.

The Commission on Elections has transferred 16 clustered precincts to various malls in Cebu where there are 11,740 registered voters. Two clustered precincts in Mabolo, Cebu City with 1,582 voters were transferred to SM City from Mabolo Elementary School.

At least 1,503 voters from two clustered precincts in Bario Luz will be vote in Ayala Center Cebu and 2,338 voters in three clustered precincts in Barangay Pitogo, Consolacion in City Mall.

According to the Comelec, 6,317 voters from the cities of Lapu-Lapu and Talisay will be voting in the Gaisano Grand Malls. Two clustered precincts in Barangay Bulacao and another two in Barangay Tabunok were transferred to Gaisano Grand Mall in Talisay while five cluster precincts from Barangay Agus and Basak were also transferred to Gaisano Grand Mall in Lapu-Lapu City.

Comelec chairman Andres Bautista, in a memorandum dated April 14, has enjoined all election officers to hold intensified voter information campaign to inform the affected voters of the transfer of their precincts.

Bautista also advised election officers to coordinate with the mall managers as soon as possible for the needed preparations like the storage options for the Vote Counting Machine (VCM); security requirements and arrangements; among other logistical matters and reminders.

Bautista said weekly reports on the progress of the information campaign should be submitted to his office and the director of Election and Barangay Affairs Department. —(FREEMAN)
