Rock, run, summer

Friday, March 18, 2016

A COLLABORATION of fitness and music will take place this summer as the Pero Concepts & Solutions brings the Summer Music and Fitness Festival on May 16 to 22 at the Ayala Center Cebu.

The week-long event will feature various fitness activities to be conducted by different fitness hubs. The event will cap off with a fun run dubbed as Rock My Run at 5 a.m. on May 22 and a concert that will feature the leading rock bands and rap artists in the evening.

Rock My Run is open to all runners and will start and end at the Cebu Business Park grounds. The runners can choose three categories—the men’s and women’s 12-kilometer, 6K and 3K. The champion in the 12K will win P3,000, the 6K top runner will get P2,000 and P1,000 for the 3K. All the finishers in the 12K category will receive a medal.

The registered runners in the Rock My Run will be given free ticket to the concert which starts at 5 p.m. at the Trackbite in Panagdait, Cebu City. The country’s renowned artists—Abra, Loonie, Ron Henley and Motherbass—will perform. Cebuano bands—Missing Filemon, Cattski, Foc Fashion and Bethany—will also grace the event.

Aside from the run and concert, there will be various fitness activities at the Terraces of Ayala Center Cebu starting on May 16. The fitness festival will be led by Anytime Fitness together with Flow Genesis Parkour and Fitness Studio, Studio 108 Fitness and Wellness Center, Detox Bar and Crossfit Pintados.

Idyll Liza Peroramas, the director of Pero Concepts & Solutions, said during the press conference yesterday that they are expecting 2,000 runners for the Rock My Run. Race director Joel Baring of Sports and Fitness Enthusiasts (Safe) will manage the technical aspect of the race.

“Music and fitness is an effective combination for so many people. Research says music distracts us from pain and fatigue. It elevates our mood, increases endurance, reduces perceived effort and may even promote metabolic efficiency. For this summer, we decided to organize an event which is a combination of music and fitness,” said Peroramas.

During the press conference, Peroramas was joined by Jason Santayana, the owner and head coach of Crossfit Pintados; Tender Heidel Maata, club manager of Anytime Fitness; Ann Liza Dala, manager of Studio 108 Fitness and Wellness Center; and Rym Bacaltos of Flow Genesis Parkour and Fitness Studio.

The registration for Rock My Run started last Wednesday and is on promo with all the categories at P300 inclusive with shirt, race bib, loot bag and concert ticket. The promo rate will be available only until this Sunday.

The regular registration rate is at P450 for the 3K, P550 for the 6K and P650 for the 12K.

Registration forms are available at the Ayala Active Zone. (SUN.STAR CEBU)
